There are some of the special characteristics of this study Bible. The main feature is that it honors the Authorized Version commonly called the King James Bible. Finally this is a Study Bible which does not criticize the King James Bible. Please notice some of the notes in the Rock of Ages Study Bible.
Page 486, 2 Samuel 22:6 "Hell" - "In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word Sheol, is translated hell, death and pit in the King James Bible. The new translations (NIV et al) have removed the word hell from the Old Testament by using the words "death" and "Sheol" instead. This suggests that hell is not taught in the Old Testament. This verse clearly shows there is a difference in "death" and "hell." Hell is not simply a place of the dead, but a place of torment (Luke 16:23)."
COMMENT BY PASTOR ROCKWELL: It should be noted that in the KJV has the word "hell" occurring 54 times, 31 times in the Old Testament and 23 times in the New Testament. All other major translations examined (ASV, NASB77, NASB95, NIV, NRSV, RSV and Darby) have "hell" occurring only 13 times in the New Testament. The only exceptions to this is that the NIV has "hell" 16 times, all in the New Testament and the Darby translation has "hell" only 12 times. The point is best said here that "hell" has been eliminated from the Old Testament in the new translations. These translations are in agreement with the "Jehovah's [False] Witnesses."
Page 1418, Mark 16:19 "The End of Mark" - "Verses 9-20 do not appear in the Vaticanus and Sinaiticus manuscripts. Consequently, some scholars have unwisely questioned the authenticity of these twelve verses. However, these verses are found in 618 of 620 Greek manuscripts that contain the 16th chapter of Mark (Burgon). The omission in the case of the Vaticanus and Siniatic versions is mystifying; nevertheless, the second Gospel would certainly not conclude with the words 'for they were afraid' in verse 8. The glorious gospel of Christ does not leave His disciples in an attitude of fear."
Page 1544, Acts 12:4 "Easter" - "The word 'Easter' is used to dispute the translation of the KJV. Verse 3 says this was the 'days of unleavened bread.' The Passover had passed according to Lev. 23:4-8 which was the day before the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Herod was celebrating his feast of Ishtar (Easter.) The KJV is accurate."
COMMENT BY PASTOR ROCKWELL: This verse has been used by many who oppose the KJV and contend it is an "inaccurate" translation and use Acts 12:4 as and example of its translation errors. It is my opinion that the KJV is the most accurate translation available, based on the correct manuscripts, the Textus Receptus (Greek) and the Old Masoretic (Hebrew).
