Jerry L. Rockwell was born in the Panhandle of Texas and raised in the city of Pampa, Texas. He trusted Christ at the age of eight in First Baptist Church of Pampa. Growing up in Texas brought several experiences where he worked in the oil field, on ranches as a cowboy and competed as a rodeo contestant.
In 1963 he was drafted into the U. S. Army and served two years, one of which was in Korea. After returning to Pampa from military service Jerry met his future wife, Marilyn Davenport. They were married on June 25, 1965 and have two children serving the Lord in their churches. Both of the children teach in Christian schools.
Jerry and Marilyn began to serve as volunteer youth workers in Highland Baptist Church of Pampa and during that time he surrendered to the call of God to preach the Gospel. They moved to Brownwood, Texas and entered Howard Payne University where Jerry graduated in 1971. He then entered Dallas Theological Seminary and received a Master of Arts degree. In 1999 Jerry was awarded the Master of Divinity Degree from Crown College in Powell, Tennessee. The Doctor of Divinity degree was conferred on Brother Rockwell from Bethany College and Seminary in Dothan, Alabama.
In 1997 Dr. Shelton Smith invited Jerry to help in the ministry of the Sword of the Lord and was vice president until 2002. He has taught as adjunct faculty in Crown College and Commonwealth Baptist College, Lexington, Kentucky. He taught for three years at Miami Baptist College in Miami, Florida which is a ministry of Grace Baptist Church of Miami.
Brother Rockwell has served the Lord in several ministries including 27 years as a pastor. He helped start and direct a ministry called Fair and Rodeo Evangelism to do personal soul winning at fairs and rodeos in Texas and Oklahoma. In 2003 Brother Rockwell contributed to the Old Testament portion of the New Pilgrim Bible published by Oxford University Press which was a revision of the Pilgrim Study Bible first published in 1948.
Jerry has recently finished a project for Rock of Ages Prison Ministry in Cleveland, Tennessee. Dr. Terry Ellis is the president. They commissioned him to edit a new study Bible to be used in the ministry to prisoners worldwide. This is a revision of the New Pilgrim Bible which the copyright now belongs to Rock of Ages Prison Ministry. The Bible is now ready and can be purchased by visiting the "Study Bible " page on this web site.
