About

Victory Baptist Church is an independent, Fundamental, Baptist church that holds to the historic beliefs of the scripture (see the section on "Our Doctrinal Statement"). Our commitment is to the Bible, God's words and the sole criteria for the development of our doctrine is from the AV 1611 scripture known as the King James Bible. This is the sole source of our understanding of what God has said to man today.

Many people today watch "Swamp People" on the Discovery Channel. We are located in the home town of Troy Landry of "Swamp People" fame. Pierre Part is located 23 miles north of Morgan City, Louisiana and 50 miles south of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It began as a small fishing village and for many years was nothing more that that. The residents of Pierre Part mostly work in the petrochemical plants located about 15 to 20 miles from here. Pierre Part is the "crawfish" (shown in the picture) capital of Louisiana. These little creatures are a large part of the economy.

The church is over 30 years old. It was started by Eric Roland who came here from Florida with a burden to reach people in this area. He was tragically killed in an automobile accident. The church has been a positive influence in this area during its existence. The past few years have seen a downturn in attendance due to people moving away for various reasons.

Pierre Part is predominantly a Roman Catholic area with about 85 to 90% of the people being Catholic. There is an interesting aspect though. Only the older people attend the Catholic Church. The younger people are very hedonistic and care very little about spiritual matters. Occasionally we encounter a person who talks about "spiritual" matters, but they have a view which is definitely not biblical.

Our mission is directly related to the mission of God, to restore fallen man to his place of a relationship with God and repentance unto life. The key verse we have adopted for this year is Jeremiah 31:10 which says, "...Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations." We believe our responsibility is connected with Matthew28:18-20 and the Great Commission.
